Congratulations to Jennifer Soloman upon being awarded OCTM’s elementary teacher award for the Eastern district. Jennifer teaches self-contained 4th grade at Champion Central elementary school in Trumbull County. She is a 1996 graduate of Maplewood HS. Jennifer holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Youngstown State University. She is in the process of building a math library for her classroom as she has found that her students enjoy and respond well to trade books correlating with math concepts. Jennifer likes to use math centers as a means of learning and review with a plethora of math manipulatives. She is busy with after school intervention, mentoring new teachers, and presenting about integrating math literature in the language arts curriculum. Jennifer is an instructor for Early Childhood student teachers at YSU and is currently the elementary vice-president of EOCTM. Congratulations Jennifer! |

Congratulations to Carolyn Nybell who is the OCTM secondary award winner for the Eastern district. Carolyn has been teaching 7th grade math/science at Boardman Center Middle School in Mahoning county. She has a BS of Education and a MS of Education from Youngstown State University. Carolyn is an OMAP instructor for algebra and geometry. Besides assisting and implementing the FERPCBM program at YSU, she is also an adjunct professor for YSU and Ashland University. Carolyn empowers her students by making math personal through projects that are implemented throughout the year in her classes. She strives for students to understand how the math works, not just memorize procedures by using technology, video conferencing, and manipulatives. She is also a valuable resource person to her colleagues who seek help with technology and ways to present math concepts. She is always willing to learn and share. Congratulations Carolyn! |
